Quality Control in the Food Industry: What Capacity Do You Need?

A shortage of QA or QC capacity requires more than just filling a job opening. The relevant question is: What work needs to be handled, what expertise is required for that, and for how long? Temporary support can be the solution in cases of staff absences, long-term open positions, peak workloads, or specific quality initiatives. Not as a standard replacement for your own team, but as a targeted supplement to the capacity and knowledge already available internally.

The Machinery Regulation: History, Key Changes, and Impact on the Food Industry

Effective January 20, 2027, the Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 will be fully in effect. For the food industry, this requires attention not only to mechanical safety but also to digital safety, software, cybersecurity, technical documentation, and modifications to existing machines and production lines.

Sustainability Claims Under the Microscope: What Changes Will Directive (EU) 2024/825 Bring?

With Directive (EU) 2024/825, the European Union has tightened the rules on unfair commercial practices to better protect consumers against greenwashing. General environmental claims, climate claims based on offsetting, and non-transparent sustainability labels will be subject to more rigorous oversight. Belgium has already transposed the directive through the Act of July 22, 2026. The Netherlands has implemented the directive through the Implementation Act on the Directive on Better Sustainability Information for Consumers. The impact is primarily felt in packaging, websites, marketing communications, and sustainability claims directed at customers and consumers. The European directive was published on March 6, 2024, and was to take effect on September 27, 2026.

Cyberattack on refrigeration systems: How watertight is your food defense plan?

A cyber incident involving refrigeration and freezing systems demonstrates how quickly a digital disruption can impact food safety and business continuity. This is also an important wake-up call for QA managers in Belgium and the Netherlands: preventive measures are only effective if they are regularly checked to ensure they work in practice.

N-min measurement: How much nitrogen is actually available to your crop?

A fertilization plan provides guidance, but it doesn’t tell the whole story about the current situation in the field. After a wet winter, a dry spring, or a period of high mineralization, the amount of mineral nitrogen in the soil can differ significantly from what was previously expected. An N-min measurement provides insight into this nitrogen supply.

Salmonella in Tomatoes: Is Your Monitoring Adequate?

DELFGAUW – A prolonged European outbreak of Salmonella enterica serovar Strathcona ST2559 underscores the importance of a risk-based monitoring program for tomatoes. This is particularly reason for importers, packers, and processors of fruits and vegetables to take a critical look at origin, sampling, and potential routes of contamination.

The EUDR is coming: How well is your food business prepared?

UTRECHT – The implementation of the European Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) is drawing nearer. For many food companies, this means that the origin of relevant raw materials must not only be known but also deforestation-free, that they have been legally produced, and that they comply with the applicable due diligence obligations. Furthermore, previous pilot inspections by the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) show where things can go wrong in practice. Simply collecting information is not enough. Companies must actually assess risks and, where necessary, take appropriate measures.
